The Master’s program at Rutgers University is strongly community development oriented. In addition, as part of MPA Program’s requirements he extensively investigated the legislation of American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009 in relation with the Neighborhoods Stabilization Programs (NSP) in Camden, New Jersey. His research concluded that the involvement of the diverse organizations in the application process made possible the success of the application. Hammel, strongly, believes that collaboration and commitment of different stakeholders are key to the success in any goal ‘achievement for any cause toward our communities’ development.

Hammel’s experience also includes working as a Case Manager for ResCare Inc., which was a contracting organization with NYC social services in helping welfare applicants in securing self-sufficiency through job placement. He also, worked for New Future Foundations, as a Programs Manager dealing with refugees’ resettlement in the United States with an emphasis on their integration through education. He represented the organization at the United Nations.  Such accreditation allows him to attend different U.N meetings at its headquarters in New York City regarding various international issues. Thus, he has been exposed to the diverse cultures and different approaches of dealing with international, domestic and local issues.
